Lesson 4: Things to Remember, Notes and An Acoustic & Electric guitar session W/ Vocals Posted on 2012-03-13 by David Rivera

One of my fellow classmates who is a little further along in the program brought in a friend whos a musician and singer for an Acoustic guitar & Electric guitar set as well as vocals. He is the "ARTIST".

 ACOUSTIC GUITAR SESSION

Today we set up a Acoustic set first so we will be miking the Artists guitar first with 3 Mics.

1. Nt 1  Condenser Mic - Which will use Phantom Power

2. Nt 2  Condenser Mic - Also will use Phantom Power

3. Custom Made Tube Condenser 280  - Will not use Phantom Power as if has it own external Power supply - Which goes into the Avalon

* When miking an artist with an acoustic guitar we want to get the best possible sound quality possible

1. Using the X & Y MIking technique which will almost criss cross one another at the center point of the Guitar where the Body meets the neck

2. The 280 is then centered and placed close to the other two condenser mics Nt1 & Nt2

* Always mark the artists placement just in case they need to get up or re-adjust something  that way there always sitting in the precise place of where they started as to not mess up the placement of mics and the Artist.

ELECTRIC GUITAR SESSION

*Slightly Different Miking being done with Electric Guitar as we will not be Miking the actual guitar itself but Miking the AMP.

3 Mics  being used for miking the Amp for the Electric Guitar Session

1.Shure SM57

2. AUDIX

3. AUDIO TEC

VOCALS

* The Artist used the Custom made 280 Tube Condenser Mic  in ISO booth.

Patching:

1. 280 mic IN ISO Booth XLR 1

2. Headphones IN ISO Booth XLR 3

After all sessions were recorded we got to fool around with some practice editing on the tracks.
