All things Audio - My first day Posted on 2015-01-31 by Matthew Krening

My first day of work. What a great experience! When I heard that my first session was going to be a load in, I wasn’t sure what to think. It turned out that this was a brilliant way to start the program. We were teaming up with the people from Yellow Gal High Definition for the rest of the week. The customer was a tech firm that was shooting videos at their offices in Denver.

This tech firm ended up changing the time they wanted us to set up. So I got to spend the time before the load out in the studio with my mentor. He was mastering an electronica album for a client of his. Watching him work the songs over was great. The opportunity to ask him why he was choosing to do this or that on each tune was invaluable! After a while, he showed me a few “trade secrets” that are amazing. I’ve used them plenty of times since then and can’t explain how much they’ve changed the sound of my projects. After a while mastering, it was time to go load in.

It wasn’t until we got all the gear into the room where we’d be working that I realized how much went into making a professional video shoot. I jumped right in and started helping my mentor as well as the guys from Yellow Gal. I learned so much about all the gear and how everything works together. I can’t imagine a more useful first session! The best part was looking at the finished product. We took a boring conference room and turned it into something you would see on TV. My first session ended up running over 10 hours, and I loved it! I was learning so much that time was flying by.

Wow. That was a bit heavy for my first real post on this blog. How about lightening the mood with a tune from one of my favorite Manchester artists!
