This past week I was able to sit in on a spoken word session and a song recording by Nahville Pussy's own, Blaine Cartwright. I was privileged to hear part of Blaine's story as he talked about his experience under certain and being nominated for a Grammy. Later, I was able to man the control room during a recording session with Blaine and his band of fabulous musicians. It was spring break for me this week for the community college I'm attending, so I was able to put in a few extra hours at the studio. We're trying to wrap up a project that entails around 14 gospel tracks that a Nitrosonic client recorded, and I've been handed the responsibility of mixing some of those tracks. A few of them had no instrumental tracks to be found, and so I created a couple tracks myself using solely Midi input and a couple drum loops. They turned out really well and my mentor was really impressed with my work. Again, it feels great to be validated for the experience I've already had coming into this and makes me even more excited to learn what I don't yet know. The chapter I just finished was about Microphones; types, specs, history, etc. I'm starting to get into the material that really interests me so I'm soaking up what I can. At Nitrosonic, one of the engineers showed me how to apply Phantom Power to a mic, so it was nice to see a real world example of what I'm learning through the textbook. Thoroughly enjoying my experience so far, and again, I'm looking forward to whats yet to come.
