Plug-In, Plug-Ins and More Plug-Ins Posted on 2013-07-16 by Kamela Singh

Date of Session: Wednesday, May 8, 2013
Time in: 11:00am
Time out: 5:00pm
Lesson #: 12

List one or two paragraphs on what you learned, what did you do?

This week, my mentor and I went through more plug-ins that came with pro tools as well as other plugins that didn’t come with Pro Tools. I got a great look at how effective each plug-in is at manipulating different sounds. Talking about plug-ins is such a general topic because there are so many you can talk about that do the same thing but produce a different outcome or sound.

Being able to hear how two of the same compressors can manipulate a sound differently was absolutely crazy. Trying out plug-ins on different instruments has helped me to identify favourite plug-ins already. I love experimenting with different and new plug-ins, I think it adds to the experience of being a producer or engineer.

Within in these past couple weeks, I have been able to work on a couple of my own projects at Trench Recordings for my mixdown assignments as well as for a couple other students. It has been a great hands on learning experience so far in terms of recording instruments and voices. Can`t wait until the finished product is done.

Write down model numbers and manufacturers of equipment or gear you've worked on.

  • Soundcraft Ghost Console
  • Classic API Mic Pres
  • Neve N72 Mic Pres
  • 1176 Compressor
  • Pro Tools 9 HD

What do you feel were your strengths and weaknesses on this week’s lesson?
