It's been almost a whole month since my last visit to the studio and my last blog post, since I've been working a ton of extra hours over the summer. I finally got back in there yesterday and damn did it feel good ! When I first arrived, Len (my mentor) was doing some finishing touches on a song for a local Winnipeg rapper, Illiano. Not only did he mix the song but he also made the beat and acted as a producer for the song, assisting in various ways. It turned out great in my opinion, I'd love to share a clip with of it but unfortunately that's not up to me. After that, Len showed me how to export tracks from Ableton & inport them into ProTools which is quite easy actually. He didn't have any artists in or much more to work on for the moment so we opened up Ableton and starting working on a beat together. He was doing most of the work physically but I was giving my creative input on sounds and patterns we were using. Once we were satisfied with it, we imported the tracks into ProTools and started the mixing process, which Len let me do for my first time. He was guiding me of course. I added some EQ, Compression, Delay & Reverb. I really enjoyed that because like I said, it my was first time mixing instruments & first time mixing anything at all in the studio. I didn't get to finish it but it was sort of a side project anyways. As usual, I'm looking forward to my next session and also doing more work on that beat !
