This post is for yesterday. (Sept.28)
For the first little bit, my mentor had me working on a random rock session that he has just for practice/learning purposes. I added some EQ & Compression to vocal and guitar tracks and messed with the panning a bit. Then my mentor showed me a way to edit in ProTools where you can pin point and add markers to certain places of a waveform and then stretch or shorten whatever clip(s) you selected. I believe you switch the view from waveform to Polyphonic and then set it to warp. Quite useful for fixing the timing on drum tracks, among other things. After that, my mentor moved onto mixing some songs for a local band "Gulf Of Brass". First thing we did was use an amp with spring reverb to add some verb to a DI guitar track. My mentor hooked the Spring Verb up to the patch bay and had some kinda reverse DI effect going on, then ran that through an API Pre-Amp and recorded it, or printed a reverb track into protools. Then we took the printed reverb track and ran that through a different amp in the live sound room, set up mics and recorded it like that. The end result was awesome and it was really cool to learn and see this being done. I've also never even heard of a spring reverb prior to this. We did the same process on a couple bass guitar tracks (first one I mentioned was electric). For the rest of my time there I just observed my mentor mixing and editing the Gold Of Brass songs. Oh yeah, I also found out you should NEVER touch a Tube amp when its been on for awhile !! (found out the hard way lol)
